Mark Vincent from the Sutherland Shire NSW is stepping up to represent Australia at next year’s 2019 Eurovision Song Contest. Vincent, who stunned viewers in 2009 with his outstanding version of Nessun Dorma on the third season of Australia’s Got Talent, will be taking part in the first ever national Australian selection show, ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides‘.
“The opportunity to compete in ‘Eurovision – Australia Decides’ means everything to me, I’ve been a Eurovision fan since I was young and love the incredible voices and talents that have emerged. I’m going to bring everything I’ve got to the stage. I’ve been working my entire life for this moment, and I can’t wait to perform for Australia.”
But it wont be easy, Mark has some serious competition representing Australia at Eurovision 2019, including award -winning solo performer Kate Miller-Heidke, Courtney Act one of Australia’s most well known Drag artists, electric-soul duo Electric Fields and indie pop group Sheppard of Geronimo fame.
Two last minute entrants have performers worried, charismatic pop star Aydan a new discovery who is 16 and singer-songwriter Leea Nanos, who has been selected as a wild card entry after her song submission blew the judges away.
Eurovision – Australia Decides’ starts in February 2019.
Courtney Act tweeted, “16 years after Australian Idol, I have the chance to show Australia how I
still can not sing have grown as an artist and performer but can not sing for shit and I am so excited! To compete and represent Oz ( not a yes yet doll ) in Eurovision is second only to being on that stage in Tel Aviv and what sounds like a form of singing singing my lungs out for my country.” ( not too loud, quiet voice )
Courtney Act’s live Australian Idol Finale performance at the Opera House 2014
and who could forget this! ( probably a lot of you actually as you were still in school.. Sophie Monk was the main performance at the Diva Awards in Sydney, Vanity Fair and Courtney Act were also Sophie Monk ( strangely enough all three look identical ) it’s a shame you don’t see it in this video but the very beginning started with Eminem’s “Will the Real Sophie Monk please stand up?”
Aydan said it would be “unbelievable” to participate in Eurovision – Australia Decides. “Having been a fan of Eurovision, ( he’s 16.. so I’m guessing he has seen it once? ) it’s really hard to comprehend that I am going to have a shot at representing our country at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019, I have such a supportive fan base ( < don’t worry about them – focus on the Europeans ) and I am hoping that together we’ll go on this journey and see a new generation of Eurovision fans.” ( @Aydan – Australia is very happy you are representing us but we don’t want ‘fans’ we want a WINNER )
Nanos said it was an honour to be up against seasoned performers. “Being the youngest and most inexperienced in the competition I know I’ll need to really bring my A-game ( or maybe Gay-game? – lot’s of gay back up dancers, surely that has to be a bonus? ) to the stage. It’s unreal that I’ve got this opportunity to perform on the same stage as all of these
who? high-profile Australian artists, artists I admire and aspire to be like.” ( I wonder if Nanos is aspiring to be Australia’s next Top Drag Queen? )
Eurovision – Australia Decides will be MC’d by Myf Warhurst, and
comedian Joel Creasey. ( still don’t think Joel Creasey is funny, just a gay who speaks really quick, is bitchy and knows how to network. That’s not a comedian – that’s 90% of the Australian gay population )
The Eurovision – Australia Decides event will be held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Friday and Saturday February 8-9. Tickets can be purchased here <
Australia has been able to take part in Eurovision since 2015 and was allowed to enter the competition to mark the event’s 60th anniversary. The grand final of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Tel Aviv, Israel, in May.
Personally if it was up to me, I’d just get all the Young Diva’s back together (not much going on there?) – winner in the bag! maybe just don’t look in Kate DeAraugo’s bag..
